RIP Ray Manzarek (1939-2013) - One of the founding members and keyboard player for The Doors has passed away today at the age 74. The distinctive sound achieved by Ray in classics such as Light My Fire, Touch Me, The End, Love Her Madly among many others, were fundamental to the stabilsh the band’s reputation as being one of the most original and fascinating bands of all time with their psychedelic sound along with Morrison’s poetry, voice and stage presence, Robby Krieger’s guitar and John Densmore drums. In the words of Manzarek himself to Jim Morrison, taken from his autobiography: “Jim, man, with your words and my keyboards…there’s nobody doing this. What’s we’re gonna do, nobody on the planet is doing. This music, our music, is called…psychedelic.” Thank you for your contributions to the rock n’roll and to music. We’ll miss you.
Why can I so easily picture this playing in the spn series finale as the camera takes one last look moving over the dead bodies of all our favorite characters, stopping on the rusting frame of the impala and then slowly fading to black?
